An Occupational Therapy Functional Capacity and Needs Assessment might help.

This assists you and your Occupational Therapist work out the easy bits and harder bits of life, to begin making a plan of support. This can also be useful when applying for funding or a funding review.

A Sensory Profile Assessment might help.

Everyone has a Sensory Profile as this describes the patterns of how we process information from within our senses. Understanding your sensory profile can assist you to know what to expect and learn how to support yourself while engaging in different sensory situations. They can also help others start to find ways to accommodate your sensory needs that support your comfort.

Executive functioning and/or handwriting screening might help.

We have tools available that can assist with determining what contributes to challenges within activities and from there can together make a plan for support that may be required for you to do the tasks needed.

Occupational Performance Coaching might help.

This is an empowering approach for support that helps you set goals, solve problems and start understanding more about yourself, all while working towards achieving the things that are important to you. 

Skill building around compassionate and empowered communication might help.

We will help you learn how to hold space for and be compassionate towards yourself. We will also explain why we find this approach to be our preferred way of 'self-advocacy' and 'assertiveness' skill development.

Practical self-care (or self-care done differently) might help.

Explore the nature of burnout and practical strategies that may support gradual recovery. Co-discover the factors that contribute to burnout, proactively prevent, and how to notice warning signs of this early, so that you can implement the approaches that can help.

Fatigue Management, Activity Pacing and understanding your sensory preferences might help.

By understanding how your energy is being used and identifying what is most important to you, we can begin to allocate energy and rest with intention. Exploring different types of rest and how to identify when each might be needed. Using these strategies, you might be able to start/continue doing what is most important to you.

Activity Analysis and Organisation skills support might help.

Through exploring where the challenge is within specific activities or your whole routine, we can work out if changing/breaking down the task, the tools we use to complete the task or the environment we complete the task in to help you achieve what you need to in your day. We can also explore what is most important for completing within your day and keep that as a focus from the start.


Exploration of typing  and speech to text options that may help you communicate in written forms with greater ease might help.

We can discuss this with you and support trialling of different options to find what works best for you.

A Core Gift Interview might help.

Using a process based on theory of traditional wisdom, that everyone has a purpose in life and a meaningful drive to contribute, we can find out more about what is most important to you right now and find ways to bring more of this into life.

A Nature Connection Exploration might help.

Using a range of tools and your own experience, we can determine strategies to enhance your connection with nature, to connect and fit intentional nature time into your life.

Tailored support on transitioning and task initiation (both are executive functioning skills) might help. 

Exploration of what you have tried and what is making the tasks challenging might help, in addition to strengthening your executive functioning skills and/or making space to take breaks can be beneficial for progressing towards being able to do what you want and need to do, with gradually less struggle.

Compassionate Communication might help.

Learn how using compassionate (non-violent) approaches to communication, can help you express your needs and ask for what you need from another. This may involve finding a middle ground. This approach can be a great yet gentle way of effectively developing 'assertiveness skills' that can be applied in real-life scenarios.

Clinical supervision might help.

At DiscoverWE, Occupational Therapists use a coaching style. This means they work closely with you, forming a partnership. Both you and the therapist are equally important in this partnership. They don't just tell you what to do; instead, they work together with you, respecting your expertise and knowledge about your own life.

Funding options

Sometimes people choose to pay for our services out of pocket.

After your session we will email you an invoice for you to pay via Electronic Funds Transfer. You can request a payment receipt if you would like this.

Some people choose to claim a rebate from their Private Health Insurance if they have 'extras cover' for Allied Health Occupational Therapy. 

Please advise if this is you and we can confirm the process for making the claim or if additional actions to register as a provider with your health insurance company can sometimes be required.

After your session, we will email you an invoice for you to pay via Electronic Funds Transfer. We will send you a payment receipt that you can then use to claim the rebate from your Private Health Insurance company, following the process they specify.

Dominique has received Mental Health Endorsement as part of the Better Access to Mental Health program. This means you can access Mental Health Occupational Therapy support via a Mental Health Care Plan.

After arranging a Mental Health Care Plan with your GP, advise that you would like a referral to Dominique Hewat. 
There is no standard or template for mental health referrals, your GP can refer you for services with a signed and dated letter that includes:

1. Your/patient's name
2. Your/patient's date of birth
3. Your/patient's address
4. Your/patient's symptoms or diagnosis
5. The number of treatment services required (up to 10 individual services).
6. A statement about whether you/patient has a GPMHTP, shared care plan or a psychiatrist assessment and management plan.

Once you have a referral, please include this as an attachment when completing the intake documentation via Halaxy.

After sessions, an invoice will be emailed to you for payment via Electronic Funds Transfer. 

Once DiscoverWE receive your payment, we will send you the paid receipt.

Submit this confirmation of payment to Medicare as part of Medicare claims processing, to receive the Medicare benefit portion of the fee. More details on the options for claiming via Medicare can be found here https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/medicare-claims?context=60092

Please note, Medicare do not generally provide a benefit for the full fee paid.

Please also note care plans do not cover indirect time including for report writing, which will need to be paid for privately if you or the person you care for require this support.

If you or the person you care for has a chronic medical condition (likely to be present for at least 6 months), you may be eligible to access Occupational Therapy support via a Chronic Disease Management Plan or a Team Care Arrangement.

Speak to your GP about your eligibility and accessing a referral for up to 5 services per calendar year. They may be able to advise if Occupational Therapy or a different Allied Health support may be beneficial.

Please note care plans do not cover indirect time including for report writing, which will need to be paid for privately if you or the person you care for require this support.

For reimbursement, a referral form https://www.health.gov.au/resources/publications/referral-form-for-chronic-disease-allied-health-services-under-medicare?language=en
OR a referral that contains all the required components is required to have been completed and signed by your GP.

Occupational Therapy support at DiscoverWE can be paid for using NDIS funds allocated within the Capacity Building: Improved Daily Living budget of plans, if this is plan managed or self managed.

After your session, an invoice will be emailed to you for payment via Electronic Funds Transfer.

If you would like us to send the invoice directly to your plan manager, please provide the email they have given you for sending invoices to for payment as part of the information you provide when completing the intake forms via Halaxy.

As a registered and practicing Occupational Therapist, my passion lies in helping neurodivergent individuals and families explore what’s possible in their lives. With over 8 years of experience working in disability and mental health spaces, I have developed a deep understanding of partnering with individuals and families to progress towards their meaningful goals. My core gift is creating a supportive and empowering space where you can notice what is, have the freedom to be yourself, and create shared meaning in your occupational journey. 

Ready to book?

Please make use of our online booking system to arrange an appointment for a time that aligns with your availability, this is completed securely via Halaxy (our client file management system). Once booked in, an automatic 'intake' form will be sent to the email address you signed up with, which will start the referral process. We will review these to ensure we are likely to be able to assist you and if so we will send you a service agreement for signing before your first appointment.
