What is in our name
In one line: the story behind the name DiscoverWE, and what each part of it means.
Estimated reading time: 4 minutes

Every name has a story. This is ours.
Discover Wellness Experiences, shortened to DiscoverWE.
But there is more than what may first appear on the surface.
The name emerged from our reflections about what we wanted this practice to be, and perhaps more importantly, how we wanted to be in relationship with the people, animals, environments and communities we work alongside.
We shorten Discover Wellness Experiences to DiscoverWE, pronounced discovery, with a WE at the end.
Discover + WE
That ending matters. DiscoverWE has never really been about one person discovering something about themselves in isolation. It is about what becomes possible between us, within us and around us when we become curious about our experiences and the worlds we inhabit.
WE is also, quite literally, where Wellness and Experiences meet. It is the place in the name where the two come together, held by the act of discovering. That is not accidental.
The journey through wellness is never made of a single experience, and no experience lands in quite the same way without the conditions of wellness around it. They are not separate. They are discovered together.
Discover
Discovery begins with curiosity.
We are interested in what happens when we pause long enough to notice what is here: what is working, what is tricky, what you are working on or through, what matters, what has been overlooked, and what might be possible.
We begin with what you already carry. Many of the people we work alongside arrive with a quiet sense that something is not quite fitting, and yet also a history full of moments where they found their way, adapted, created and persisted. Discovery, for us, begins there.
We value curiosity over certainty, and possibility over prescription.

Wellness
For us, wellness is more than the absence of illness or the pursuit of feeling good. It is about the conditions that support a person, or a family, team, community or system, to live well.
Wellness, as we understand it, does not begin when something goes wrong. It is already present in the small, everyday moments where life feels a little more like yours.
- What helps us have enough capacity to do what matters?
- What helps life feel more sustainable?
- What enables participation, connection, meaning, agency and a sense of belonging?
Rather than asking only, "How can I change myself?", we can also become curious about, "What might need to change around me?"
Sometimes the most meaningful change is not becoming better at coping with, or adapting to, an unsuitable environment. It is changing the environment itself. Sometimes it is finding a different way of doing something, receiving support, or making a very small change that creates enough space for the next possibility to emerge.
Experiences
The word experiences matters too. We believe meaningful change arises through practice: through experiencing, noticing, trying something, adjusting, and making meaning from what happens.
Many of the people we work alongside begin a little unsure of what they need, or cautious about trying, not yet knowing what works for them or what does not. There is often a quiet sense of having lost the thread of themselves somewhere along the way. Part of what we do together is gently and curiously pick that thread back up, one small micro experiment at a time.
This is why it is experiences, plural. There is no single experience that captures it. No fixed way of arriving, no fixed expectation of what the journey should look like, and no single destination we are all heading toward. The journey itself is often where the most meaningful things happen.
This is also part of why our work continues to evolve. The plan is built with you, and stays responsive as we learn more together.
WE
And then there is WE, perhaps the most important part of our name.
We are relational beings. Our experiences are shaped through connection: with ourselves, with other people, with animals, with place, with our communities and with the wider systems we participate in. So the work we do is not something that one person does to another. It is something we discover and create together.
We do not begin by asking you to have it all figured out. We begin by getting curious together about what has already worked, what already matters, and what you already know about yourself, even if it has not yet been named.
You bring your lived experience. We bring professional knowledge and a different lens. And what sits in between, in relationships, routines and the texture of everyday life, often turns out to matter most of all.
This is why WE is a key part of our name.
A living practice
DiscoverWE is not simply a name for a collection of services. It represents an intention for how we practise:
- To approach people with curiosity and openness.
- To look for possibility and existing strengths.
- To consider the whole context of a person's life and environment.
- To value lived experience alongside professional and other forms of knowledge.
- To create conditions that support agency and active participation.
We imagine a world where the conditions for people to participate fully in what matters to them are woven into everyday life rather than reserved for moments of crisis. A world where difference is not automatically understood as deficit, and where people have greater opportunity to shape the conditions in which they live, work, participate and belong.
We do not pretend to have all the answers to how that world comes about. And perhaps that is part of the point.
We are discovering it together.
That is DiscoverWE. Discover. Wellness. Experiences.
A practice of curiosity, connection and possibility, exploring what becomes possible when we create the conditions for people and their environments to work together a tiny bit more easily.
